What was your athletic background, if any?

I ran Cross Country (through junior year) and Track (as a freshman). During cross country season of my sophomore year, my coach introduced us to weightlifting and I fell in love with it. Then, I kept getting shin splints during cross country, so I stopped about a month into the season during my junior year. I would also work out at home during the off season by doing Pilates, lifting weights, running, and doing conditioning. I just loved any type of working out.

What do you do when you’re not at CFA?

You can find me doing homework, writing short stories, bullet journaling, or watching/going to hockey games.

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

I liked to do any kind of working out and Crossfit is just a mix of everything. I realized it was right for me when I wanted to go to the gym before school and train because I knew I’d be sacrificing sleep. Despite that, going to the gym isn’t a chore.

Do you remember your first WOD?

All I remember was that there were thrusters.

What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?

Favorite: Power cleans Least favorite: Squat snatch

What is the one thing you have done at CFA that you never thought you would do?

250 double-unders in one workout and redoing said workout with double-unders when it wasn’t an open workout.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

I just try to finish within the time cap honestly.

What’s are your favorite things about CrossFit?

The community and that any movement can be scaled to any fitness level.

What are your short term and long term goals?

Short term: deadlift 200 lbs; power snatch 100 lbs Long term: compete in the Crossfit Games

Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFA?

Everyone has been a beginner at some point.

Coach’s comment:

Kayela started with us earlier this year and has put in hard work ever since her first day. She has gained both strength and endurance. She is a regular at our 5:45am class and some days comes back at night to work on her weaknesses. Not only has Kayela improved at CrossFit, she has also been working on her diet to make sure that it is fueling her training. Keep up the hard work, Kayela!
