What do you do when you’re not at CFA?

Go to wrestling practices, and hanging out with friends and family.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?

After my freshman year of wrestling realizing I wanted to get stronger and faster.

What movement do you despise over everything and why?

Thrusters everything about them sounds miserable. While doing them as well it takes a toll on me mentally making them more challenging.

What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA?

There is not just a single moment that sticks out to me. I really enjoy the community there is everyday. My favorite is when there is an extra hard workout and it brings everyone together and we’re all pushing each other to do our best and finish.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

Knowing although it sucks in the moment, afterwards I will feel so much better. Also having the group setting helps because there’s always encouragement and seeing everyone else is going through the same thing you are.

If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be?

If I were to write my own workout it would definitely have some inverted burpees and hang cleans. Those are two movements I really enjoy and I think are fun.

What are your goals going forward and what do you think will help you achieve them?

Besides staying in shape and keeping my cardio up for wrestling more recently I’ve been trying to chain my pull-ups together. Not giving up and pushing myself to do them during workouts and just keep going will definitely help. I’ve already seen a change in how many I can do in a row.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness or just day to day life since starting CrossFit?

After going to CrossFit I’m more active and productive throughout my day. As far as my fitness goes I’ve noticed a huge change on the mat since going I’m faster and stronger than before, making moves easier and more efficient.

What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit?

Keep coming, consistency is key. It may be hard some days and make you extremely sore but keep showing up. You may not be the best at everything when you start but if you keep showing up your bound to get better.

If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be? Or which other CFA member are you the most motivated by?

The person who got me into CrossFit, Mark Schmidt. He has shown me that it’s good to push myself and that it’s good to do hard things. This has helped me in so many aspects of my life already. One of those has definitely been showing up and always working hard especially at CrossFit. (Having his arms would be nice too)

Coach’s Comment

We would like to congratulate Mackenzie on being September’s Member of the Month. It’s not every day you see someone so young dedicate themselves to fitness, and Mackenzie has certainly done that over the past two-plus years. She is incredibly consistent, even during the summer months, and has used CrossFit to become a better wrestler. CrossFit seems to have made a big impact on her mental edge, which will only help her in wrestling.

One thing I remember about Mack is that even before she could drive, she would ride her bike to the gym for the 5:45 a.m. class — not only during the warm months, but also in the rain and snow. Talk about dedication!

Keep up the great work, Mackenzie! We are proud of you and all your hard work!
