What do you do when you’re not at CFA?

As a mom to a toddler, I am usually finding fun and creative ways to entertain her! As a family, we love to spend time outdoors, doing crafts, and spending a lot of time with our closest friends and family. On my own time, I am an avid reader/audiobook listener, podcast listener, baker, and gardener. 

What do you do for a living?

I work for an environmental consulting agency as an Environmental Planner. I help renewable energy developers bring their project to fruition by permitting large-scale solar and wind energy projects across the U.S. 

How has your fitness changed since joining?

My overall ability to do most exercises has increased dramatically. Especially my endurance, I can definitely push myself longer than I’ve been able to in the past. 

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?

I originally started CrossFit when I was living in Arizona, and found a small, local gym that connected me to an awesome community of likeminded people. I just love how CrossFit can check several boxes for me – by letting me socialize, get fit, challenge myself, and have a ton of fun along the way! CFA has been no exception to that – I absolutely love the community here. 

What movement do you despise over everything and why?

Sled pushes or pulls. Mostly I just can’t stand the noise they make when they go over the pavement. And my calves get so tired! 

What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA?

Although I love the workouts, my favorite part has been all the friends I’ve made since joining. I love the nights we stay doing puzzles and spending time with each other, those are my favorite memories for sure. 

What motivates you during a tough workout?

Having gratitude that my body is able to do this. Sometimes I think about how one day I may not be able to do this anymore or at the same capacity, and that motivates me to keep pushing! Also thinking about how I want to be a role model for my daughter – and show her how important fitness is to stay healthy and happy. 

What’s something about you that most people at the gym don’t know?

I worked on a trail crew for over two years, where we did 8-day long camping stints (8 days on, 6 days off) all across Arizona and New Mexico, living outdoors, maintaining trails, and exploring some of the most wild areas out west! Sometimes I can’t believe I ever did it, but it was one of the best experiences ever! 

If you had to describe your CrossFit experience in one word, what would it be? 

Empowering.

If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be? 

3 RFT: 400 meter run, 10 deadlifts, 10 wall kick ups, 10 box jump overs

What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit?

Just give it your best each time you show up – and consistency is key. Some days you have less to give than others, and that’s OK! You are really your only competition in the gym, everyone else is rooting for you!

If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be?

Honestly, I just admire all of the awesome women who work out at CFA. Especially the other moms, who are usually already stretched so thin (myself included) but we still show up ready to crush the workout.

  • Favorite Cheat meal:   I don’t really restrict anything haha, but my favorite indulgence is definitely fresh baked goods! 

  • Favorite Workout song: Sandstorm by Darude on loop (lol jk – but this changes daily for me depending on my mood – but right now I’ve been liking INDUSTRY BABY by Lil Nas X). 

  • Favorite Place You Have Traveled: I love South America but really the most beautiful place I’ve ever been was the Sawtooths (mountains) in Idaho. We traveled there with our best friends, our dogs, and we just hiked and hiked for miles in serene natural beauty while our dogs had the time of their lives. It was truly jaw-droppingly beautiful and I felt so much happiness while I was there. 

  • Favorite TV Show: It’s a tie between two shows that couldn’t be more different: Game of Thrones & Love Island (and yes, I was a fan waaaay before Season 6 LIUSA, IYKYK)

  • Favorite CrossFit Athlete (if any): *shrugs*

Hannah has been a joy to have since starting at CFA! After starting CrossFit in Arizona, having a daughter, and moving back to Michigan, she found the perfect spot to stay fit and make friends. CFA checks all the boxes – she’s gotten stronger, boosted her endurance, and made some new friends!
