What do you do when you’re not at CFA?
Hanging out with our neighbors, camping, making jewelry
What led you to Crossfit and CFA specifically?
I was looking for a group fitness class to help motivate me / keep me accountable, and CFA is really close to my house. It took me a long time to work up the nerve to join because CrossFit seemed so scary!
When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?
I was really nervous and intimidated the first few weeks because I was not in good shape and couldn’t do most of the movements, but everyone was so welcoming and non-judgmental about where I was at. It was surprising and so much different from what I expected!
What movement do you despise over everything and why?
Wallballs, they hurt my soul.
What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA?
Murph would definitely have to be my favorite experience here so far. There’s such a camaraderie that day, and it really embodies the spirit of CFA.
What motivates you during a tough workout?
Seeing everyone else dying right along with me but pushing through it anyway is really inspiring and helps me keep going!
If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be?
Something with box jumps. It took me a long time after I started to even be able to do one box jump, and now I can do them easily – it’s the thing that most makes me notice how far I’ve come!
What are your goals going forward and what do you think will help you achieve them?
My focus right now is building the amount of weight I can lift overall. Consistency at the gym and proper nutrition have already been a big help with this over the last few months!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness or just day to day life since starting CrossFit?
I’ve seen such huge changes to my strength, cardio ability, and mental health since starting CrossFit. It truly is a workout that covers and improves everything for me!
What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit?
Consistency is the quickest way to get better – even if you are tired and not feeling it, show up! Showing up and scaling is better than showing up inconsistently. This took me a long time to learn!
If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be? Or which other CFA member are you the most motivated by?
This one is hard because there are so many people that I admire for so many reasons!
Melinda for her consistency, Marie for being so kind to everyone all the time! But really there are so many unique people here that I admire for so many different reasons!

Coach’s comment:
We are thrilled to have Melissa as our Member of the Month for July. She was an easy pick, as her consistency, improvement, and attitude make her a joy to have in our early morning class. Since starting with us a few years ago, she has improved in all aspects of her fitness, including endurance, strength, and overall movement. This year, she has focused more specifically on her nutrition, and you can see a significant difference in her body composition. Keep up the good work, Melissa; we are thankful you joined CFA over two years ago!
