Anything outdoors. I enjoy fishing, hunting and camping. I also enjoy taking things apart and fixing/restoring them.
What do you do for a living?
I am a structural engineer for a company that builds environmental test chambers.
How has your fitness changed since joining?
My fitness has improved significantly both in strength and cardio. Before starting CrossFit I had pretty bad sciatica. Since starting at CFA that problem has went away.
When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
When I I would be so sore the next day, but still wanted to go back that night to workout.
What movement do you despise over everything and why?
Bike sprints. They are just painful.
What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA? So many fun moments!
The adventure race was my favorite moment. It was one of my biggest challenges and it was great to get out in nature.

What motivates you during a tough workout?
Seeing everyone else going through the same workout.
What’s something about you that most people at the gym don’t know?
I’ve never ran more than a mile at one time before starting at CFA. Now I have ran multiple 5k and 10k races.
If you had to describe your CrossFit experience in one word, what would it be?
Community. The tone of the day changes immediately when you walk in the door. Everyone is friendly and pushes you to be your best.
If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be?
3 rounds for time: 400m run, 500m row, 15 bench press, 20 AMSU

What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit?
Just keep showing up and you will be surprised what you’re capable of.
If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be?
The whole 6pm class. Their mindset is the best. They are always there to have a good time, but never skip out on the workouts.

Coaches’ Comment
We are proud of Doug and all the hard work he has put in over the last two years. He will be the first to tell you that CrossFit is hard and the assault bike sucks, but if you stick with it and show up consistently, your fitness will naturally improve. Since beginning CF, Doug has gotten stronger, faster, and more enduring. Not only that, but he has also put his fitness to the test in the Spartan Race, Bass River Adventure Race, Tru Challenge, the OPEN, and Murph. Keep up the great work, Doug!
