What do you do when you’re not at CFA?
You’ll find me enjoying quality time with my family—my husband Varun (who also attends CFA), our 22-month-old daughter Leela, and our dog, Pepper (mini Bernedoodle).
When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
After my first workout at CFA! Once I was cleared for postpartum exercise, it didn’t take long before I was learning all the CrossFit movements (I’d never lifted weights like that before!) and quickly fell in love with the variety of workouts CFA offers, along with the supportive community.
I grew up doing competitive swimming and also played water polo in high school, so I was looking for something equally challenging to continue in my adult life. After taking a few breaks from working out and trying out a few different gyms, I’m really glad I found CFA. It checks all the boxes for what I was looking for in a gym.
What movement do you despise over everything and why?
The Assault Bike, it’s named that for a reason.
What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA?
The “Mom to Be WOD” was a memorable experience! It was fun to see everyone embracing the challenge of working out with their medicine ball “babies.” It really highlighted the importance of community support, especially for those who are expecting or have recently had children.
Another workout that stands out is the “Murph” from this past year. The atmosphere was electric, and it’s one of those workouts that really pushes you to your limits, but the sense of accomplishment when it’s finished, along with the shared experience of tackling it as a community, made it so rewarding.
What motivates you during a tough workout?
Knowing that the feeling of accomplishment afterward is worth it, along with setting smaller goals to reach during the workout. If all else fails, just keep moving.
If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be?
Anything upper body, I really like bench press and pull ups.
What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit?
Start slow and be consistent. Don’t be afraid to scale the workouts! I still scale my workouts often, it’s a great way to stay motivated and avoid discouragement. Fitness is about your own journey and scaling helps to ensure you’re getting the most out of each session while respecting your body’s current abilites.
If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be?
I have a deep admiration for all the women who consistently show up and are an essential part of the CFA family. They exhibit incredible dedication and strength, both physically and mentally. I know many of them juggle busy lives (careers, families, home responsibilities, etc.) and yet they still make time to show up and put in the work. Seeing that really motivates me, knowing that I’m not alone in this stage of life. Their commitment inspires me to keep pushing forward, no matter the challenges we all face.
